The D.C. Legalization of Marijuana for Medical Treatment Initiative (LMMTI) allows for the legal possession, use, growing, and distribution of medical marijuana within D.C. Patients who obtain a physician recommendation for medical marijuana may legally posses up to two (2) ounces of usable medical cannabis, use medical marijuana legally in their private residence, and obtain D.C. cannabis from a certified primary caregiver. D.C. medical marijuana patients are not permitted to legally grow medical cannabis plants in their own private residence. D.C. medical marijuana patients may not sell medical cannabis to other medical marijuana patients; only designated primary caregivers may distribute cannabis to patients. A medical marijuana license does not guarantee immunity from workplace restriction on the use of medical marijuana; or housing restriction on the possession, growing, or use of medical cannabis. Driving under the influence of cannabis is prohibited under LMMTI. D.C. does not share reciprocity with other medical marijuana states. Potential D.C. medical cannabis patients should consult with a physician, or medical cannabis registration company, to determine qualification to use medical marijuana in D.C.
